Ganden situated 45 km East of Lhasa on the Highway that follows the south bank of the Kyi Chu to Medro Gongkar. This is one of the most beautiful sites in central Tibet, which is considered as an abode of Champa, the future Buddha. The monastery perched on the ridge called Gokpo Ri, the site was chosen by Tsong Lhapa (1357-1419) for his first meditation where the monastery built later. This is one of the great monasteries out of six, built by Gelukpa sect.
This itinerary linking two of the most important monasteries in Central Tibet crosses the Yatro Drak range of mountains that divide the Tsangpo basin from the Lhasa Valley. The trek provides a superb means of access to Tibet's first monastery an institution founded in the 8 th Century. |
Day by Day Itinerary |
Days 01 Fly Kathmandu to Lhasa. Upon arrival at Gonggar airport, you shall be met and transfer provided to Lhasa City. O/n at Hotel.
Days 02-03 LHASA SIGHTSEEING TOUR Visit The Potala & Norbulinka Palace, Jokhang Temple, Drepung & Sera Monastery and Barkhor Bazaar. O/nts at Hotel in Lhasa.
Days 04 Drive to Ganden Monastery. Trek to Hebu. Camp.
Days 05 Trek over Zhukar La Pass (5200m). Camp.
Days 06 Cross Chetur La Pass through alpine Lakes. Camp.
Days 07 Trek visiting Yomalung meditation cave enroute. Camp.
Days 08 Trek to The Samye Valley. Visit the Samye Monastery. Camp.
Days 09 Cross the Brahmaputra River and drive to Tsetang to explore The Yambhulhakhang, Tibet's first castle and Cha-Duk Monastery. O/nt at Hotel Tsetang.
Days 10 Drive to Gyantse enroute visiting Yamdrok - Tso Lake. O/nt at Hotel Gyantse.
Days 11 Drive to Shigatse. O/nt at Hotel Shigatse.
Days 12 Drive to Tingri visiting Shakya Monastery enroute. O/nt at Sakya Guesthouse.
Days 13 Drive to Nyalamu. O/nt at Hotel Snowlion.
Days 14 Drive downhill to Zhangmu and proceed further to The friendship Bridge where transportation awaits for the group's journey to Kathmandu. |
